While the Digital Visual Interface, or DVI, standard has generally been supplanted by HDMI for consumer applications, DVI gives PC users the option of using video resolutions other than the standard HDMI 720p, 1080i, and 1080p offerings. This DVI-A cable includes a single DVI-A connector and a standard VGA/SVGA DE-15 (HD-15) connector on the other end, thereby allowing users to connect a DVI-A analog device to a VGA device. For example, this cable could be used to connect the DVI-A output of a video card to the VGA input of a monitor, or a VGA output to a DVI-A monitor.
